The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  East central Will County in northeastern Illinois...
  Southeastern Cook County in northeastern Illinois...

* Until 830 AM CDT Thursday.

* At 228 AM CDT, Doppler radar and rain gauges indicated very heavy 
  rain had occurred across the warned area with heavy thunderstorms 
  continuing.

* This is a particularly dangerous situation! Up to 4 inches of 
  rainfall has already occurred near Richton which has caused 
  flooding of numerous roadways throughout the warned area. Any 
  additional rainfall will worsen flash flood impacts.

* Waterways most likely to experience flash flooding include....
  Butterfield Creek.... Thorn Creek... and Deer Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take action now for dangerous flash flooding! Persons near streams 
and creeks should move immediately to higher ground to protect life 
and property.

Night time flooding is particularly dangerous, and most flood deaths 
occur in vehicles... Turn around, don't drown when encountering 
flooded roads. 

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 AM CDT FOR
EAST CENTRAL WILL AND SOUTHEASTERN COOK COUNTIES...

At 336 AM CDT, Automated rain gauges indicated storm total rainfall 
of four to five inches had occurred in a few areas of Richton Park, 
Steger, and Crete. Flash flooding is already occurring across the 
area including numerous creeks, roadways, and underpasses. This 
flooding will continue over the next several hours.

This is a particularly dangerous situation! Flood waters in 
Butterfield Creek, Thorn Creek, Deer Creek, and Plum Creek are 
moving northward downstream toward Olympia Fields, Chicago Heights, 
Ford Heights, Glenwood, Lynwood, and Dyer. Although some locations 
may crest soon, locations downstream may continue to rise for 
several hours into late this morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Persons near streams and creeks or in flood prone areas should move 
immediately to higher ground to protect life and property!

Night time flooding is particularly dangerous.... Turn around, don't
