...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills and/or actual air temperatures
ranging mainly -15 to -35 degrees...overall-coldest during the
  morning and overnight hours.

* WHERE...Portions of north central Kansas and central, east
  central, and south central Nebraska.

* WHEN...Until noon CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Although the very worst of this prolonged
cold snap will end Thursday morning, Thursday night into Friday
morning will bring one final round of very cold wind chills as low
as -15 to -25 degrees. Later forecasts may include a Cold Weather
  Advisory for this time frame.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
