At 735 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Radar indicates that between two and four inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Heavy rain is starting to exit the warned area to the south, but runoff from the heavy rain that has already fallen will continue prompt flash flooding. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Martinsville... Bassett... Stanleytown... Villa Heights... Chatmoss... Collinsville... and Oak Level. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
