...A SNOW SQUALL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1015 AM EST FOR EAST
CENTRAL AROOSTOOK COUNTY...

At 951 AM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line
extending from near Easton to 8 miles west of Bridgewater to 7 miles
southeast of Smyrna Mills, moving east at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Flash freeze on roads. Whiteout conditions with near zero
visibility associated with intense bursts of heavy snow and
gusty winds leading to blowing snow. Wind gusts greater
         than 35 mph.

SOURCE...Radar, ground observations and webcams.

IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous
         within minutes.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 95 between mile markers 280 and 304.
US Highway 1 between Cary and Mars Hill.

Locations impacted include...
Presque Isle, Houlton, Mars Hill, Hodgdon, Easton, Island Falls,
Bridgewater, Smyrna, Dudley Township, Smyrna Mills, Cary Plantation,
Littleton, Linneus, Monticello, Oakfield, Blaine, Westfield, New
Limerick, Ludlow, and Merrill.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Wet roadways will quickly freeze. Black ice will cause roads,
bridges, and overpasses to become slick and dangerous. Slow down and
be prepared for a sudden loss of traction.

Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the
visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions.

Consider avoiding or delaying travel until the snow squall passes
your location. If you must travel, use extra caution and allow extra
time. Rapid changes in visibility and slick road conditions may lead
to accidents.
