For Des Moines, the afternoon relative humidity dipped to below 20% for a number of hours, which is extremely rare for January as shown by the featured chart. Based on available hourly observations, the chart presents the percentage of those hours during January with a relative humidity value below 20%. While it is hard to quality control those 1936 values, there was only a couple of days back in the early 2000s with such low values. Remarkably, fire weather concerns are present over the midwestern US with the snow drought, dry vegetation, and strong winds forecast this week.
