D3 Returns to Iowa

Posted: 06 Aug 2021 05:55 AM

The weekly update to the US Drought Monitor was released yesterday and two chunks of northern Iowa were newly analyzed at D3 (Extreme Drought) classification. The featured chart presents the weekly US Drought Monitor coverage over Iowa by classification since 1 Jan 2020. The chart nicely tells the story of the drought situation in the state with our present saving grace likely being a cold season that did not see deterioration and early growing season dryness that helped crops to establish deeper rooting allowing it to find stored soil moisture. Chances of needed rainfall remain in the forecast over the coming seven days.
