Glorious above freezing temperatures invaded the Midwest US on Monday as we continue to attempt to forget about the very cold period of the past two weeks. For that period, Des Moines had a 15 day streak with the daily high temperature below 32 degrees and a six day stretch with the high temperature below 10. The featured chart attempts to answer how exceptional that is with the left panel showing the maximum such streak each season and the right table showing the longest such streaks. Having six such days in a row is exceptional and is only two days behind the longest such streak on record and about double as long as what a simple seasonal average of about three days would indicate.
