Hurricane Helene

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting a major hurricane named Helene to come ashore over Florida later today. An expansive area of the southeastern US is presently under a number of different NWS headline products to cover impacts from the hurricane. The featured chart presents an IEM accounting of the number of people, based on 2020 estimates, and number of counties/forecast zones included by such headlines. The Flood Watch is presently the largest for both metrics as widespread heavy rainfall is expected. The rain shield from this system may even reach Iowa this weekend as it interacts with an upper level low and is expected to jog west for a bit inland.
