Unfortunately, the severe weather threat materialized in a big way over Nebraska and Iowa on Friday producing many strong tornadoes over the region. A number of long lived "supercell" thunderstorms produced many reports of tornados, which necessitated the NWS to issue many tornado warnings. Based on unofficial IEM archives, NWS Omaha issued their largest calendar day total of tornado warnings at 42. The featured chart presents the monthly totals of tornado warnings and lists out the top 10 daily events. The monthly total (51) for this April is another record for the office. Remarkably, another significant tornado outbreak happened on Saturday further south, with NWS Norman, OK issuing a record number of warnings as well.
