Another measure of how our recent month of July wasn't all that bad for temperature is found by today's featured chart. The chart presents monthly cooling degree days for Des Moines, which is a measure of the amount of air conditioning demand with larger values indicating hotter temperatures (more need for air conditioning). The total for this July is shown as the lowest total since 2004. A visual inspection of the chart shows that the August totals typically do not lag the July totals by a whole lot, so yes we have another month of summer before totals really start to drop off during September.
