Wintery Roads Frequency

Posted: 05 Apr 2022 05:30 AM

The featured map presents an IEM computed analysis of the percentage of time a given Iowa DOT reported road segment was in a non-seasonable condition this winter season since the first of November. The percentages shown may be a little difficult to put into context as values in the zero to eight percent range may seem rather small. Perhaps the relative comparison over the state is more insightful as a significant variation is shown. The portions of extreme western Iowa that have seen little snowfall this season are apparent, versus eastern Iowa which is closer to average for snowfall. The careful reader may notice some broken line work shown on the map. These missing segments are a known data issue at the moment found whilst preparing this graphic and hopefully will be cleaned up with an updated map in the coming few days.
