The featured chart presents the minimum low temperature for Des Moines between the dates of 1 October and 6 January. The lowest temperature so far this season for the site is just two degrees, which is nine degrees above a simple long term average and ranks at about the 15th percentile. The lack of very cold air so far this season has been noticeable, but the coldest weather on average is still two weeks out and the coldest temperatures of the year can often happen into March. Rephrasing, we still have plenty of winter season left and time to experience very cold temperatures!
