July 1 Precip Departures

Posted: 08 Aug 2019 05:34 AM

After a very wet cold season and a spring season where one wondered if it would ever stop raining, we are now worried about the lack of precipitation. The featured map depicts a smoothed analysis of precip departures from long term average since 1 July. The largest deficits are shown over southeastern Iowa. This area is currently highlighted by the US Drought Monitor as abnormally dry. Rainfall looks to remain elusive over the state during the coming seven days, but temperatures will remain mild.
